The Retford Ukulele Group (RUGs) was formed in November 2016 by Ajay Johnson. Since then, we have welcomed members from all over Bassetlaw and further afield into neighbouring counties. We meet most weeks on a Monday evening from 7:30pm and play and sing an ever-expanding list of popular songs from all ages.

We have met at different venues around Retford but are currently meeting at Beer Under the Clock in Retford Town Hall Yard. See our Find Us page for more details. We can recommend Beer Under the Clock for a fine selection of ales, ciders, wine and spirits. They also do soft drinks, so alcohol isn’t necessary if that’s not your choice.

Ukuleles are our thing, but we’re not opposed to other instruments. We also have bass, drums, violin and harmonica. Note that any instrument may work but should be played with consideration for other members of the group.

All abilities are welcome. We don’t offer lessons, but beginners are welcome. Many of our members started out as complete novices but soon progressed with regular practice and support. There’s always a friendly face to provide advice and guidance. Unfortunately, we cannot accept under-18s due to pub licensing rules.
